Calantha stepped forward. “We need to figure this out!” She shot an almost hostile look at me, but she concealed it and spoke calmly, “We just don’t understand it.”

“Are you sure it was like that? It is possible you remember it wrong?” Sera asked again.

I stood up, anger flashing as I remembered all I had already endured because of the locket. “I have been betrayed, I have been chased, I’ve been injured, my father has been killed. Do you really think I would forget?”

I glared at the people around me. “I have delivered the message. I have done what Pedro asked of me when I witnessed his final moments. Now, you can handle this from now on, and I can go back to Mat’s house and continue my vacation.”

Calantha seized my arm. “We thank you, Gina. But I’m afraid you can’t leave.”
